Perugia lift Italian men's Supercup, Modena knock out Lube

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 2, 2019 - Sir Safety Conad Perugia has won the men's 2019 Italian Super Cup with a stunnning 3-2 (27-25, 23-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-12) over Leo Shoes Modena in the final of the four-team competition Saturday night.

Cucine Lube Civitanova, reigning European champions and Italy's representatives at the 2019 FIVB Men's Club World Championship in Betim next month, had been knocked out by Modena 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 27-29, 25-20) in Friday's semifinals.

Reigning world champions Itas Trentino had been eliminated in the other semifinal by Perugia 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22).



Cuba-born Poland international Wilfredo Leon led the scoring for Perugia in the final with 21 points, including an amazing six aces. Serbia's Aleksandar Atanasijevic added another 18 for the winners.

Top scorer of the final, however, was Ivan Zaytsev with 30 points, as USA's Matt Anderson contributed 22 more for Modena.

The Club World Championship will be played 3-8 December in Betim, Brazil, hosted by Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei and also featuring Lube, Russia's Zenit Kazan, and Qatar's Al-Rayyan.
